An interview on Dailymotion may be a full recording, a short extract or a dubbed edition uploaded by a different publisher. Before producing a transcript, identify which recording you actually have. The useful outcome is not just searchable words: it is a note another reader can trace to the right source and moment.

The [Dailymotion transcript generator](https://transcript1.com/features/dailymotion-transcript) explains accepted inputs. This guide uses a public prerecorded interview as an example, without assuming that every video with a recognizable URL can be fetched.

## 1. Record the edition before submitting it

Open the individual video page and listen to the opening. Note its title, publisher and duration in your own research record. A shorter upload of the same interview has a different timeline. If you switch editions later, do not carry the old timestamps across without checking them.

Copy the video URL, supported embed URL or dai.ly share link. Do not submit the surrounding channel or playlist. The recording must be accessible without authentication; transcript1 does not accept cookies or private account credentials. A restriction is not removed by changing from a share link to an embed link. See the [source rules](https://transcript1.com/docs/sources-and-options) for accepted URL forms and access limits.

## 2. Convert the Dailymotion video to text with the right options

[Sign up](https://transcript1.com/signup), verify your email and paste the link in the dashboard. Automatic language detection is the normal starting point. If a translated voiceover covers the original speaker, the result follows the audio that is actually audible; it is not a separate translation service recovering an unheard original.

Request speaker identification when separating an interviewer from a guest will make review easier. Numbered labels are useful for organizing turns, but you still need to identify the voices yourself. Dailymotion auto uses usable original-language direct SRT captions first, otherwise speech-to-text. Caption playlists are not supported, and not every video has a retrievable track. Captions-only never downloads audio or falls back to STT; no usable track means no_captions. source=stt and speaker labels bypass captions. Caption output has segment timing only, with unknown track origin reported as null rather than creator-uploaded.

## 3. Review a whole exchange, not an isolated answer

Search the completed text for the topic you need. Listen from the preceding question through the end of the answer before selecting a quotation. A reply such as “not in that situation” makes little sense without the situation the interviewer described.

Check personal names, place names, dates and quantities against the audio. If a word remains unclear, mark it uncertain in your notes rather than replacing it with a plausible guess. Keep a reviewed quotation separate from your paraphrase. A transcript helps find evidence; it does not verify the guest’s factual claims.

## 4. Add graphics as a different kind of evidence

Suppose a lower third names an organization while the speaker only says “we.” The organization name is a visual observation, not a spoken word recovered by transcription. Note that distinction alongside the timestamp. The same applies to headlines, charts and the description written below the video.

When several uploads repeat the same excerpt, avoid treating them as independent interviews. Keep their links if useful, but mark the shared recording in your archive. The [research transcript workflow](https://transcript1.com/use-cases/research-interviews) offers a broader approach to reviewed quotations and speaker labels.

## 5. Export for the next task

Download TXT for a reading document or JSON for segment-based indexing. SRT and VTT are appropriate when you need timed cues in a player or editor. Verify alignment against the exact edition you selected, especially if it contains a longer introduction than another upload. The [timestamp and export guide](https://transcript1.com/features/timestamps-srt-vtt) explains the differences. Exporting does not publish captions back to Dailymotion.

For repeatable research collection, the [API reference](https://transcript1.com/docs/api-reference) describes submitting a link, saving the job id and reading the completed result. Successful jobs cost one credit per media minute, rounded up; failed and canceled jobs are not charged. New verified accounts receive 60 free minutes once. Reading a saved result or choosing another export does not start another transcription.
